Sanitizing Your House and Body with Essential Oils

You can use essential oils to sanitize the air or create your own hand sanitizer in the absence of soap and water. Most essential oils have antimicrobial properties as they were formed to protect the plant from insects and disease. The most popular microbial essential oils are Bergamot, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Lavender, Lemon, Orange, Peppermint, Thyme, and Tea Tree. There are many more, so if you don’t see your special oil on the list, just give me a shout.

  • Inhale an essential oil directly from the bottle or put a couple drops on a tissue to inhale. I make an inhaler that fits in your pocket just for this purpose. You can order from the website or give me a call—920-288-2317.

  • Add a couple drops to a diffuser to cleanse the air.

  • Create your own hand sanitizer by adding some drops to hand lotion. For adults 12 and over, add 18 drops per ounce of lotion. For children 6 to 12 years old, the elderly, and those who are pregnant, add 6 drops per ounce of lotion. For Children 3 to 5 years old, add 3 drops per ounce of lotion and do not use Eucalyptus. For Babies 2 and under, add 1 drop per ounce of lotion and only use Lavender.

  • Create your own surface cleaner by putting one drop on a wet washcloth, or adding 4 drops to a quart of water in a spray bottle.
